Town of Remington Awarded Grant
The Town of Remington was awarded a $500,000 grant from the Indiana Office of Community & Rural Affairs. This Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) was funded under the Disaster Recovery Fund, Appropriation 2. This follows a lengthy grant application process which included an income survey, archaeological study, environmental review, and public hearings.
The Town of Remington works with the Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission (KIRPC) for grant applications. Edwin Buswell is the KIRPC Executive Director, and Kimberly Baker is the Grant Administrator. KIRPC makes sure all the steps in the grant process occur at the appropriate time, and do all of the follow-thru on the project.
Funding in addition to the grant is being provided by the Town of Remington and the Townships which the fire station serves. Land was purchased in the Fall of 2009 from Steve Hageman, and the site is located just north of US 24 at the east edge of town, adjacent to the current Vestas wind turbine office. The town and the townships are dividing the cost of the new fire station. They have secured Tom Brock as the Architect from Chicago, Illinois. The building will be 11,500 square feet with five equipment bays, community/education room, kitchen, two offices, turnout gear room, radio room, and storage and utility rooms.
The fire station model and display boards are available for viewing at the Remington Town Hall.
